Almost 4,000 athletes descended on Queensland State Athletics Centre (QSAC) recently for the 2026 Australian Little Athletics and Australian Athletics Junior (Under Age) Championships.

Held from 13-20 April, the two Championships, which were run back-to-back for the first time, provided a showcase of Australia’s emerging junior talent coupled with some inspiring and record-breaking performances.

All eyes were on rising star, Gout Gout as he managed to defend his national title in the Under-20 100-metre final of the Australian Junior Championships with a time of 10.21 seconds.

QSAC Events Manager Erica Kennedy said the event showcased the venue at its best.

“We welcomed around two to three thousand spectators a day, across the eight days of competition, with fans witnessing some remarkable performances here at QSAC," Erica said.

“Events like these showcase QSAC as the home of high-performance sport, providing pathways for Queensland’s up-and-coming athletes through training and competition facilities.

“We’re really proud to play such an important a role in the journeys of some of Australia’s most talented athletes chasing Olympic success through our facilities.”
