More than 300 athletes from over 30 countries descended on QSAC recently to compete at the Virtus World Athletics Championships, showcasing what’s possible when talent meet opportunity.

Virtus is a not-for-profit organisation supporting athletes with an intellectual impairment to compete at the highest levels, as well as in grass roots sport.

QSAC Venue General Manager Graeme Clark said being able to host the championships for athletes with intellectual impairment demonstrates the venue’s commitment to inclusivity.

“We are very proud to foster a disability inclusive culture at QSAC where all staff, visitors, and athletes feel welcome and respected,” Mr Clark said.

“We were delighted to host the Virtus Championships and showcase elite athletes with an intellectual impairment, and thrilled that the Championships wrapped up as one of the most record-breaking events in Virtus Athletics history with a total of 27 records being broken,”

QSAC Events Manager Erica Kennedy said the successful delivery of the Virtus World Championships was a true team effort.

“I’m incredibly proud of the efforts that went into delivering the 2025 Virtus World Championships, which included a lot of work from every area of the QSAC team to ensure we met the event requirements,” Erica said.

“We place great importance on providing the outstanding customer service and were so pleased to receive incredible feedback from Sport Inclusion Australia about how friendly and helpful our team here at QSAC team are.”

“It was such a joy to watch the inspiring Virtus athletes during their final procession for the closing ceremony and was a great reminder that what we do is special to so many people – even on the long and difficult days, we are helping make people’s dreams come true.”
